For example, if your gross salary is 200,000, your food and lodging expense is 500 per employee. If your regular salary is 300,000, your food and lodging expense would be 600. In a few cases, the IRS will require a 1099 when a salesperson received compensation for selling securities on behalf of a publicly traded company. If Form 1099 is used to receive compensation, the IRS will provide an instruction letter and form 1099-MISC to the person using the 1099. When we prepare a list of businesses that have paid out 1099s in our study in 2016, we found that they made purchases of stocks (excluding financial instruments).
